Radio Days Swing Orchestra

Radio Days is a sixteen piece dance band playing music from the 1930s to the 1960s covering the Golden Age of Big Band Swing music.

Our usual line up is:-

5 Saxes (Joe Carey, Angela Richings, Nick Blake, Myles Madden, various)
3 Trumpets (Bob Cutting, Steve Clapton, Colin White)
3 Trombones (Julian Hawes, Steve Barritt, Pat Aitken)
Piano (Matthew Bason)
Guitar (George Wicks)
Bass (David Sholl)
Drums (Frank Hockney)
Male Vocalist (Ben Guppy)

The band’s extensive library has been assembled from public and private collections in Britain and the United States . In addition, our Musical Director, Mr Joe Carey, was given access to the music library of the famous White Star Line, whose orchestras entertained transatlantic passengers during the pre and post war period.
The Radio Days repertoire reflects the work of the great composers and arrangers of the swing era, with names such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Artie Shaw and Glenn Miller being represented. Radio Days also features many arrangements made popular by Frank Sinatra and the ‘Rat Pack’.
Whether you are a devotee of the swing bands or are new to the music you will have undoubtedly have heard many of the numbers played by Radio Days. ‘In The Mood’, ‘American Patrol’, ‘Mack The Knife’, I’ve Got You Under My Skin’; the list is extensive.
You can, of course, simply listen to the band, but our music is also for dancing. From the experienced Lindy Hopper to the tentative party goer the tempos allow everyone to dance, or at least have a go.
Our guess is that you are looking for a fun, reliable, skilled band that plays great music at a competitive price. Well, we believe that we offer all of this, and our enthusiasm is free and infectious. As one great Bandleader once said “Rhythm is Our Business”.
Radio Days have performed at numerous events over the years. Highlights include recording a soundtrack for a performance at the Edinburgh Festival, Airbase Hanger dances, 1940s themed dances, Oxford University College Balls, Roundtable functions, Weddings, private parties and annual appearances at the Henley Royal Regatta since 2000. So, whether you are planning a private party, corporate function, or wish to celebrate and are looking for something a bit different.
